Avidsen manufactures this thermostat for residential applications at a very affordable price. The Avidsen 103953 Thermostat is among the easiest to use, suitable for people who frequently use the manual function. It perfectly complies with the metering regulations. However, it can also be used with the weekly program and manage the temperature day by day, weekdays, and holidays in time slots.

The Thermostat is exceptional and is equipped with backlighting and battery charge status control. In this regard, we suggest replacing the batteries every 2 years, from a good brand and disposable. The batteries are 2xAA.

The thermostat door effectively hides the buttons for reprogramming, allowing you to protect the heating program from children. On the external keypad, on the other hand, we find the essentials: one button to increase the temperature and one to decrease it.

Adjustments and Display

The display, starting from the top, shows you:

  • The current day set.
  • The current time set.
  • The temperature currently set.
  • The program currently in operation (if the Px notation doesn't appear, where x stands for the program number, then the thermostat is in manual mode).
  • Lastly, in larger characters, is the temperature currently sensed by the device.

Button Functions

On the outside of the thermostat, we find the truly essential buttons. This allows us to easily explain to older individuals that:

  • If they're cold, press the + button.
  • If they're hot, press the - button.

For more precise adjustments and programming, however, we'll need to open the button compartment where we'll find:

  • The button to set the Manual program.
  • The button to set the current time and day.
  • The RESET button that restores factory Hours/Temperatures and programs.
  • COPY to copy the settings from one day to the next.
  • PROG allows you to program days, times, and temperatures.

Set the Correct Time

The first step is to set the day of the week and the current time as follows:

  • Press the "DAY" button; the day number will start flashing. Use the - and + buttons to change the day.
  • Pressing the "DAY" button again will make the hour flash. Use the - and + buttons to set the hour, and follow the same method to set the minutes. To confirm, press the "SET" button. At this point, the correct data is saved, and the device returns to the main screen.

(If no button is pressed for at least 15 seconds, the settings are automatically confirmed, and the device returns to the main screen).

Set an Operation Schedule

The Avidsen 103953 thermostat can be programmed for a period of one week. Its operation is automatic, and it will cyclically repeat the programs that have been input in six separate switching times. You can select temperatures at your discretion for each day of the week, and they can be set for each switching time. The temperature set for a specific period will remain valid until the next changeover time. As a result, the thermostat will maintain the set temperature for the P1 switching time until the P2 switching time is reached. After the P2 time has passed, the temperature selected for the P2 transition will be valid.

Notes:

  • The Avidsen 103953 thermostat's software is only enabled to increase the level of periods to be set in accordance with the series number (P1; P2; etc.).
  • With factory default settings, the device will execute the following period changes every day of the week.
Period  Time  Temperature
P1 7:00 20°C
P2 9:00 17°C
P3 12:30 20°C
P4 15:00 19°C
P5 17:30 22°C
P6 23:00 17°C

Access to the main screen:

  • Press the "SET" button.

Entry into programming mode:

  • Press the "SET" button again and hold it.
  • Press the "PROG" button.
  • At this point, the numbers indicating the days of the week (1 2 3 4 5 6 7) will start flashing on the display.

Selecting the day to be programmed:

  • Use the - or + buttons on the front panel to select the specific day or all days of the week.
  • If you want to apply the same program to all days, select all the days simultaneously (1 2 3 4 5 6 7). This eliminates the need to program each day separately.
  • If you want a different program for each day, select and program the days one by one. For days with identical programs, use the "COPY" button as described in 2.2.

Setting the time and temperature:

  • After selecting the day, press the "PROG" button again.
  • Set the start time for the P1 period (the time will flash). Use the + and - buttons to adjust.
  • Press the “PROG” button again and set the desired temperature with the + and - buttons.
  • Repeat these steps to set additional periods (P2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Copy Program

  1. Access to the main screen:
    1. Press the "SET" button.
  2. Activating the "COPY" function:

  3. Select and copy the program:
    1. Use the buttons on the front panel to select the day whose program you want to copy.
    2. Press the “COPY” button to confirm. Once done, the flashing of the day number and the word "COPY" will stop.
  4. Replicating the program:
    1. If you want to use the same program for other days, repeat the procedure described above for each desired day.
  5. Saving changes:
    1. Press the “SET” button to save all changes. If no button is pressed for at least 15 seconds, the changes will be saved automatically, and the device will return to the main screen.

Common Issues

The thermostat isn't turning on the heating!

Always check first that the boiler is in winter mode and that the system pressure is satisfied in the case of a direct connection.

Beware of using rechargeable batteries (They have low amperage and do not trigger the thermostat relay properly). Consider replacing the batteries with some good brand disposable ones.

Set it to manual mode and set a very high temperature using the + button until you reach a temperature higher than the detected one.

Useful Tips

Tips for the optimal use of the thermostat.

Take advantage of thermal inertia

Set your thermostat considering the thermal inertia, namely:

  • If you have cast iron radiators, set the switch-on time at least an hour in advance to allow the heating to get up to speed. Just as it takes a long time to get up to speed, in the evening, turn off the heating an hour early to enjoy the still warm radiator.
  • For aluminum radiators, you can turn them on half an hour earlier due to the excellent heat exchange property of this material with the environment.

Mounting and Installation

Once you've found the ideal location for the Avidsen 103953 thermostat:

  • If you're replacing an old unit, use the existing wires, making sure to use the Normally Open and Common contacts (NO / C).
  • Adjust the temperature coefficient if you have heat sources nearby.
